Macuira National Natural Park is located in the northeast of the Guajira Peninsula, in the Caribbean region of Colombia. This tourist destination is a natural and cultural reserve that protects species of flora, fauna and diversity of ecosystems and water sources. In addition, the territory is protected from the Wayuu culture, an indigenous tribe of Colombia of great ancestral importance.
HOW TO GET TO THE MACUIRA NATIONAL PARK?
This tourist destination is located in the municipality of Uribia, to reach the Macuira National Natural Park must go to Riohacha, you can do so by air from Bogota. When arriving in Riohacha you must take a special service from the transport terminal, hire it in advance as you will not find public transport to take you to the park. If you will be traveling in a personal vehicle, the recommendation is to hire a guide as the road has little signage and is complex to reach the park.

Don’t forget your bathing suit and sandals. For the desert walk you should wear comfortable grip shoes. If you plan to camp in the park you should have a warm blanket as the nights can be cold in the desert area.
ATTRACTIONS IN MACUIRA NATURAL PARK
Macuira National Natural Park is located in the Serranía de la Macuira, is an area of 25,000 hectares in which visitors can interact in different ecosystems, what most attracts this park is its semi-desert area which is located a few kilometers from the park.
It is also curious to find an ecosystem of cloud forest that resembles the ecosystem of the moor, however, at only 550 meters above sea level, this forest is a sacred place and of great respect for the Wayuu community that is part of the park.
Macuira Park is home to about 100 species of birds, many of them endemic and others migratory, for this reason, the park was declared in 2013 Special Area for the Conservation of Birds. It is also home to mammals, such as deer and ocelots, and snakes. On your visit to Macuira Park you will encounter species such as iguanas, reptiles and amphibians.
What you can do during your stay in Macuira Park is hiking, it is recommended to wear comfortable and closed shoes for the walk, on the tour you will see beautiful landscapes, a combination of flora and mountains that together with the blue skies will form a beautiful landscape.
In this tourist site you will also find water sources and beautiful pure springs, one of the most visited is the Princess Waterfall.
The most visited places in the Park are El Mirador, Las Bateas and Las Dunas de Arena, the latter is the favorite for tourists to take photographs, do not forget your camera and enjoy the landscape.
