HISTORY OF CHICAMOCHA CANYON
The Chicamocha Canyon is located in the 77th position of the Wonders of the World, is an erosion caused on the river bed and by tectonic movements of the earth. It is located in the department of Santander and Boyacá, because although most of its route is in Santander, covers the municipalities of Socha, Pisba and Chita de Boyacá. It has more than 108.00 hectares and is the second largest canyon in the world.
This natural wonder was formed approximately 46 million years ago, at that time this place was a gigantic lake in which caves were formed used by marine animals of which fossil remains are still found.
HOW TO GET TO CHICAMOCHA CANYON?
Chicamocha Canyon is located in Santander, 54 kilometers from Bucaramanga. To get to the Chicamocha Canyon you must first get to the municipality of San Gil. In San Gil you will find buses that will take you directly to the Canyon, the cost of the ticket is approximately $15,000.
