The Calima Archaeological Museum was founded in 1981, has more than 2,500 pieces that have been rescued in more than 30 years of studies and scientific research on the indigenous communities that inhabited the lands of Valle del Cauca 10,000 years ago.

How To Get to Calima Archaeological Museum

The Calima Archaeological Museum is located in the town of Darién, very close to Lake Calima, at Calle 10 # 12 – 50. To get to this tourist destination you must go to Buga or Cali. The fastest route is from Buga, since it only takes an hour and is cheaper, there you will take a bus to Darien and then you must take a collective service to the museum.

If you are in Cali, from the transport terminal you must take a bus to the Darien, and in the same way, in the Darien take a collective service to the Museum.

Calima Archaeological Museum Tour

The Calima Archaeological Museum occupies an area of 15,000 m2 in which pieces of gold and silver work, ceramics and textiles from the Calimas communities to which the lands of Valle del Cauca belonged, including the Ilama, Yotoco, Sonso and Malagana cultures. Although these 4 cultures did not cohabit, their samples of ceramics and goldsmithery have certain similar characteristics.

In the museum you will find works that will leave you with your mouth open, these works show perfection in the techniques they used, will be a tour of what was the Valle del Cauca more than 10,000 years ago, gold pieces with different forms that managed to represent their cosmogony, their gods and beliefs. In addition to showing all these elements of great historical value, the museum has designed replicas of what could have been the houses in which these communities lived on a daily basis.

The Museum also offers conferences, thematic workshops, video projections and a space for events, as well as a beautiful garden that you can walk through.
